Speaking ideas for BarCamp Orlando

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

With BarCamp Orlando coming up this weekend, I’ve been thinking about what to talk about and how best to present that information.

For the unintiated, a BarCamp is a small un-conference. The wikipedia entry says this:

BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.

While in theory this sounds like great fun, the problem resides in the user created content. When you have to present at one of these things, it’s not a huge deal because time is limited and everyone is presenting, but you still have to speak to everyone there and come up with a topic that no one else is talking about (pssh, you’ve got me).

So what I’m thinking about (still undecided and I only have 2 days left!) is to do a un-panel. Instead of getting a few knowledgeable people together to respond to my questions, I’m going to gather a few questions around a topic (still undetermined) that I’ll choose that I would like to learn more about.

It may sounds like a cop-out, but I think this idea has legs. How much fun would it be to stand up and instead of telling everyone how knowledgeable I am and what I have to offer, asking them to teach me. What do we think?
